In Brighton there is expected to be a large march and protest, with demonstrations also planned for Worthing, Horsham and Hastings.  We have been engaging with the organisers, who have been very co-operative and have informed us of their planned routes and activities.  This has helped us plan for the events, although exact numbers of protesters are unknown.

Everything is in place for those who wish to demonstrate peacefully within Sussex and I would encourage protestors planning to be out for the day to prepare for the cold weather.  We are keen that they can express their views but I would ask parents and carers to speak to their children and make sure they understand the environment they will be entering.

We do not anticipate any problems during the Sussex events, however, we will not condone illegal acts as a way of voicing discontent.  Our aim is to provide a safe and secure environment for protesters and to prevent crime and disorder."

To minimise disruption to local communities Sussex Police has added information of the planned protests and marches due to take place in Sussex on its website, with details of routes and road closures.  Live information will be provided on the day on the Live Text web page and and Twitter advising members of the public of the impact of industrial action and any changes to services, either by police or essential services provided by partners.

Ch Supt Morrison will also be providing accurate and timely updates about the events we are policing across the county, to inform those taking part about policing activity, highlight any safety concerns and to advise those not taking part how they may be affected.
