cpre

From Laura Jansen, CPRE Campaigns Team

2 June 2010

Good afternoon

We’re really busy getting to grips with the new Government’s proposed reforms to the planning system. Substantial changes are in the pipeline but are expected to take a while to develop.
CPRE is taking this opportunity to draw up a charter setting out how we see the future of planning and how it can best protect the countryside – we’ll be using this to lobby the Government.

I will certainly let you know how we get along, what the latest details are as we find them out and any opportunities for you to help make a difference to the Government’s plans.

Stop more pylons blighting countryside
Back in December, I wrote about the threat of new pylons and many Campaigns Update readers helped our campaign. In fact, readers made up the majority of the 515 CPRE responses to the Government’s pylons consultation.

Well, the threat hasn’t gone away. National Grid still plans to erect thousands more of its 50-metre-high pylons, including through National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

CPRE is campaigning hard to stop them ruining our wonderful landscapes. It would make a real difference if you would help us by emailing your MP and asking him or her to lobby the Energy Minister, Chris Huhne. (As usual, I’ve prepared a draft online letter and entering your address will bring up your MP’s details.)

With best wishes,
