Fletching Parish Council- Monthly Newsletter
Parish Council News Update – September 2011
After the summer break the Council met on Monday 5th Sept. The meeting had a full agenda with a number of discussions taking place and actions being assigned. As always the minutes are available on the website (www.fletching-pc.org).
The key news worthy updates follow:
ESCC Tony Reid reported the highways maintenance works will continue with the available funding being stretched as far as possible to improve damaged road surfaces. Please report any areas requiring specific attention via the ESCC on-line reporting tool (www.eastsussex.gov.uk look in roads and transport).
County also reported that funding has been made available to improve broadband services in rural communities. Negotiations are underway with vendors whereby the grant could potentially be matched enabling service uplifts to be more widely applied. We will keep you updated in this respect!
Wealden discussed the localism bill and the planning that is being undertaken to support it. A conference is scheduled during September to update parish councils. This session will outline the changes the bill will bring about and what we will need to understand in order to support and adhere to its adoption.
A review of the output of the parking meeting has been discussed. A number of questions were raised during the meeting, all of these will be followed up and where changes can be made the actions required to instigate will commence. Specifically we will ask if carriageway marking at the end of Cherry Gardens along with cul-de-sac signs can be provided. We will keep you updated on our progress.
Closer to home we are happy to report that the badger work in the burial ground has completed and that to date no further disturbance in the vicinity has been observed. Discussion took place regarding the burial ground policy, particularly in respect to the placement of synthetic memorials on graves. The Council has agreed to convene a meeting in the burial ground and review the matter.
To celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee we thought it would be good participate in “The BIG Lunch” initiative that is being promoted by the Deputy Lieutenant for East Sussex. We envisage a community event, perhaps a “Picnic in the Park”, “Street Party” or other activity where we can all come together next June. A meeting will be scheduled in the village hall in mid-October to set up a committee. If you would like to be part of this please let us know we are keen to engage as many local groups and interested parties as possible to take this forward.
