Fletching Parish Council – February Update

Broadband; Work continues to gather information regarding the Broadband requirements in the Parish.  This information is required to support the ESCC county wide broadband programme.  A brief questionnaire is already available on the parish website (www.fletching-pc.org/broadband-email ) and this will also be distributed to households shortly along with further details of the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebration. Please watch out for this and participate.

Bell Lane; concerns have been raised with the Parish Council regarding the tree overgrowth on Bell Lane.  Whilst this matter has been reported to ESCC highways no update has as yet been provided.  The Parish Council will continue to pursue this matter and provide an update next month.

Annual Parish Meeting; whilst it may seem to be a few months away please put the date in your calendar.  This year’s Annual Parish Meeting will be held on 4th April 2012 in Fletching Village Hall.  We hope to see as many of you in attendance as possible.

PARISH COUNCIL NEWS - November 2011

Welcome to the Parish Council update for November.  As always, the full meeting minutes and detailed updates may be found on the Parish Council website (www.fletching-pc.org)

County Councillor Tony Reid reported that the Government was to make available £500m to the South East Economic Partnership of which £32m was to be awarded to Essex, Kent and East Sussex. It was likely that the East Sussex element would be used, together with funds from other providers, to initiate the provision of high speed broadband within rural areas of the county.  He, together with District Councillor Roy Galley, was to sit on a commission to hear the views of small to medium businesses with regard to ways and means of increasing productivity and other issues and asked the Parish Council if it could seek out and provide details of small businesses within the parish with a view to compiling a local business register to provide a contact point to assist the economic initiatives currently under consideration. The Parish Council invites home based businesses and others to provide details of their activities.

District Councillor Roy Galley reported that there was to be a ‘broadband seminar’ early in December, to which the Parish Council would be asked to send representatives, where the future broadband requirements of rural Wealden would be discussed. This will be an important meeting to ensure that the economic needs of the rural community are fed into the system.

Strengthening Local Relations (SLR) – the October meeting has taken place and several local highway issues have been presented to the County Council including confirmation of the moving of the 30 mph sign into the village on the Eastern approach road, an inspection of the surface water problem on the road fronting Denniker Farm, a review of the road surface at Cherry Cottages and the provision on a cul-de-sac sign at its junction with the High Street together with junction markings which will make the parking of vehicles on the junction an offence. The possibility of placing ‘planters’ opposite the village hall as a traffic calming measure was considered but thought unlikely that the Highway Authority would licence such a measure.

The Diamond Jubilee - six persons attended the inaugural meeting to consider the setting up of a committee to consider possible local arrangements to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee; various ideas had been put forward and a further informal meeting has been arranged for Tuesday 13th December in the village hall at 7.30pm – 7.15pm if tea is required – all interested persons and ideas would be welcome.

Fletching Burial Ground - a ‘firming up’ of the regulations with regard to the prohibition of synthetic flowers in the burial ground has been deferred pending further consultation.

Parish Council News Update – October 2011

Welcome to the Parish Council update for October.  As always the full meeting minutes and detailed updates are available on the website (www.fletching-pc.org).

This month Councillor A. Reid reported that the East Sussex, South Downs and Brighton & Hove Waste and Minerals Plan has been published and would be considered for approval by the County Council on the 14th November; he was pleased to say that there would be no land raise sites in East Sussex.

Councillor R. Galley gave an update on proposals to integrate waste collection services with the Eastbourne, Rother and Hasting authorities to attempt a saving of £500k per annum; however, he confirmed that in the event of an integrated service being implemented there would be no reduction in the service currently provided throughout Wealden.

The bi-annual Strengthening Local Relationships (SLR) meeting took place on Friday 7th October.  Representative from ESCC highways and environment teams met with members of the Parish Council to discuss local issues and the future parish plans.  Much of the agenda for this meeting focused upon the feedback gathered at the Parking Meeting held in July, many items of which are now being progressed.

The Parish Council invites tenders for the cutting of grass and other small works within the civil parish of Fletching at six different locations.  The full specification and forms of tender may be obtained from the Clerk, Mr D. Harris telephone: 01892 660235 or contact by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Completed forms must be returned to the Clerk to the Council no later than mid-day Monday 7th November 2011 for consideration by the Council at its meeting at 7.30 pm on Monday 7th November 2011.

Over the past month representatives from Fletching have attended the ESCC Annual Parish/Town conference and the Wealden Conference / Localism Bill.  Many areas of consideration were raised during these events, details of which were presented to the council on 3rd October for thought and consideration.  Future actions / requirements for Fletching will are discussed at the next Council meeting in November.  A copy of the presentation is available along with the October Council minutes on the web site.
