Fletching Parish Council- Monthly Newsletter
PARISH COUNCIL NEWS - November 2011
Welcome to the Parish Council update for November. As always, the full meeting minutes and detailed updates may be found on the Parish Council website (www.fletching-pc.org)
County Councillor Tony Reid reported that the Government was to make available £500m to the South East Economic Partnership of which £32m was to be awarded to Essex, Kent and East Sussex. It was likely that the East Sussex element would be used, together with funds from other providers, to initiate the provision of high speed broadband within rural areas of the county. He, together with District Councillor Roy Galley, was to sit on a commission to hear the views of small to medium businesses with regard to ways and means of increasing productivity and other issues and asked the Parish Council if it could seek out and provide details of small businesses within the parish with a view to compiling a local business register to provide a contact point to assist the economic initiatives currently under consideration. The Parish Council invites home based businesses and others to provide details of their activities.
District Councillor Roy Galley reported that there was to be a ‘broadband seminar’ early in December, to which the Parish Council would be asked to send representatives, where the future broadband requirements of rural Wealden would be discussed. This will be an important meeting to ensure that the economic needs of the rural community are fed into the system.
Strengthening Local Relations (SLR) – the October meeting has taken place and several local highway issues have been presented to the County Council including confirmation of the moving of the 30 mph sign into the village on the Eastern approach road, an inspection of the surface water problem on the road fronting Denniker Farm, a review of the road surface at Cherry Cottages and the provision on a cul-de-sac sign at its junction with the High Street together with junction markings which will make the parking of vehicles on the junction an offence. The possibility of placing ‘planters’ opposite the village hall as a traffic calming measure was considered but thought unlikely that the Highway Authority would licence such a measure.
The Diamond Jubilee - six persons attended the inaugural meeting to consider the setting up of a committee to consider possible local arrangements to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee; various ideas had been put forward and a further informal meeting has been arranged for Tuesday 13th December in the village hall at 7.30pm – 7.15pm if tea is required – all interested persons and ideas would be welcome.
Fletching Burial Ground - a ‘firming up’ of the regulations with regard to the prohibition of synthetic flowers in the burial ground has been deferred pending further consultation. |
