FLETCHING BURIAL GROUND: The Parish Council is concerned that many of the tributes left at the burial ground do not comply with published regulations and flower containers are often not removed as required. In many cases health and safety issues arise when unauthorised vessels, e.g. glass jars, stone edges and the like are placed on graves which inhibit regular maintenance and compromise the Council’s legal duty of care to its contractors and the public.
The Parish Council is very much aware of the delicacy of the situation and would respectfully ask those responsible for the caring of graves to remove all materials that do not comply by no later than the end of July 2010 failing which removal will be arranged by the Council. The Parish Council has the responsibility of levelling all graves after which no unauthorised changes to the surface may be made.
From the beginning of August 2010 the Council’s contractors will be authorised to maintain the burial ground in accordance with the regulations, a copy of which may be viewed on the Parish Council website by clicking here.
The Parish Council would thank those concerned for their co-operation.
